Do Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series phones support USB-C to HDMI?

Only the Galaxy Z Flip 7 supports USB-C to HDMI. Every earlier Flip, and the Flip 7 FE, has no DeX and no wired video output even though the port is USB 3.2.

Samsung left DeX and DisplayPort Alt Mode out of the Flip line for years, most likely to protect the Fold and S lines. The Flip 7 from 2025 is the first to get both, wired and wireless. If you own a Flip 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 FE, a USB-C to HDMI cable will not work.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7: The first Flip with DeX and wired HDMI output. Earlier Flip models do not support it.

What to do with a Galaxy Z Flip series phone

  1. If your model is marked Supported above, get a USB-C to HDMI cable rated 4K 60Hz. See the cable guide.
  2. Plug the TV in first, then the phone, and select the HDMI input. Open the app to cast photos, videos and music in a TV layout.
  3. If your model is marked Not supported, skip the cable and use the Browser Cast mode in the app over Wi-Fi.

The full explanation is in how DisplayPort Alt Mode works.

Frequently asked questions

Which Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series models support USB-C to HDMI?
Galaxy Z Flip 7. The rest of the series does not.
Why does my Galaxy Z Flip series phone charge but not show on the TV?
Charging uses the power pins of the USB-C port. Video needs DisplayPort Alt Mode on the high-speed pins, which these models do not have. The cable is working; the phone cannot send video.
Can an app enable HDMI output on a Galaxy Z Flip series phone?
No. Wired video output is decided by the phone's chipset and port wiring. The alternative is wireless: the Browser Cast mode in the USB-C to HDMI app, a Chromecast, or the TV's built-in casting.
What cable works with the Galaxy Z Flip series models that do support it?
Any USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter rated for 4K 60Hz. No brand-specific cable is needed.
