Do Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models phones support USB-C to HDMI?

No. The non-Pro Motorola Edge models, including Fusion, Neo, Lite and the US Edge (2022 to 2024), use a USB 2.0 port and support Ready For only wirelessly.

Motorola's naming makes this confusing: the Edge 40 Pro has wired output, the Edge 40 does not. The rule is that Pro, Ultra, Edge+ and ThinkPhone models have DisplayPort Alt Mode, and everything else in the Edge line does not.

  • Edge (2024): The 2024 US Edge is based on the Edge 50 Fusion and has no video output.
  • Edge 40: Ready For on the Edge 40 is wireless only. The USB 2.0 port has no video output, unlike the Edge 40 Pro.

What to do with a Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models phone

  1. If your model is marked Supported above, get a USB-C to HDMI cable rated 4K 60Hz. See the cable guide.
  2. Plug the TV in first, then the phone, and select the HDMI input. Open the app to cast photos, videos and music in a TV layout.
  3. If your model is marked Not supported, skip the cable and use the Browser Cast mode in the app over Wi-Fi.

The full explanation is in how DisplayPort Alt Mode works.

Frequently asked questions

Which Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models models support USB-C to HDMI?
Edge 30 Fusion. The rest of the series does not.
Why does my Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models phone charge but not show on the TV?
Charging uses the power pins of the USB-C port. Video needs DisplayPort Alt Mode on the high-speed pins, which these models do not have. The cable is working; the phone cannot send video.
Can an app enable HDMI output on a Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models phone?
No. Wired video output is decided by the phone's chipset and port wiring. The alternative is wireless: the Browser Cast mode in the USB-C to HDMI app, a Chromecast, or the TV's built-in casting.
What cable works with the Motorola Edge base, Fusion and Neo models models that do support it?
Any USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter rated for 4K 60Hz. No brand-specific cable is needed.
